FFY 2024 IPPS Final Rule: Hospital-Acquired Conditions (HAC) Penalty

CMS re-implements the HAC penalty (1 percent) for those hospitals in the lowest quartile on select measures of hospital-acquired conditions. Unlike FFY 2023, CMS will not suppress the HAC adjustment in FFY 2024. Also, beginning with the FY 2025 program year and future years, CMS establishes a validation reconsideration process for hospitals to challenge CMS’s determination of the HAC penalty.
