Transmittal 3 – December 2011

This transmittal impacts SNF cost reporting periods beginning on or after January 1, 2012.  It incorporates a revision required by ACA Section 6104 “Reporting of Direct Care Expenditures.” 

This ACA provision requires SNFs to separately report expenditures for wages and benefits for direct care staff (breaking out (at a minimum) registered nurses, licensed professional nurses, certified nurse assistants, and other medical and therapy staff).  A new cost report form was added S-3, Part V for the collection of this data.  Several other changes/clarification were made in and described in this transmittal.

Health Financial Systems CMS 2552-10 Software Approval from CMS

HFS received approval for their CMS 2552-10 cost report software on Monday October 31, 2011.  According to an e-mail distribution from Becky Dolin, approval is contingent on HFS incorporating additional changes in the software.   You can expect updates to the software throughout the month of November.  Becky stresses for the 80% that use their cost report software, that you should download the latest software prior to filing the cost report. The great news is that we are now able to file cost reports with the new forms.  

We really appreciate the hard work invested by HFS to bring the new forms to this approval stage.

 Hospice Cost Report Forms CMS-1949-99

Transmittal 9 – September 21, 2011

CMS released transmittal 9 for the Hospice cost report forms on September 21^st.  The transmittal changes and instructions are applicable to cost reporting periods ending on or after July 31, 2011.  According to the transmittal, significant changes were made to: 

• ·         Worksheets A, A-1, A-2, A-3, B and B-1, lines 16.20, 24.20, 30.30, 30.31, & 30.32.

This transmittal introduces Chapter 41, Skilled Nursing Facility and Skilled Nursing Facility Complex Cost Report, Form CMS-2540-10, which contains instructions for the completion of the new cost report forms to be filed by skilled nursing facilities (SNF’s) and SNF complexes.
